The Art of Walking
Benefits, Style, and Pizzazz of the Primeval Fitness Exercise
First, a few facts:
- Time Factor: If you run an hour, you'll burn more calories than if you walk an hour.
- Distance Factor: If you walk a mile, you'll burn more calories than if you run a mile.
- Fat Factor: Walking a mile will burn more fat than running a mile: a runner burns lots of sugar and carbohydrates to get bursts of energy.
- The Joints Factor: Walking is a lot more gentle on the joints than running.
- The aerobic benefit Factor: A fast, brisk walk is said to yield comparable aerobic benefits to running, since in walking almost every part of the body is moved.
- The Speed Factor: A runner who runs 9.2 miles in 1 hour and 32 minutes burns 920; a walker who walks the same distance in 2 hours and 39 minutes would burn 530 calories. Therefore, the runner burns calories faster than the walker. But CAUTION: A good walker can walk 9.2 miles; but it takes quite a strong runner to run 9.2 miles.
